Reviews
The 2011 festival has set a new record with the total number of children, young people and their families taking part being over 34,000 - this is compared to 27,210 in 2010, 25,100 in 2009 and 22,400 in 2008 .
We engaged 4,030 school children from over 60 schools in Sheffield for our school projects programme this year which got good feedback from teachers. As part of the ‘Be The Best That You Can Be' project, 10 lucky children from Springs Academy sang backing vocals on the first single made by up and coming boy band ‘The Reason 4'. The single is due to be released by Sony Records in September. Each child will receive an annual royalty cheque for their performance'.
We are, as always immensely grateful for the support we get from schools. And we are also keen to get more schools involved - if you represent a school and would like to talk to us about getting involved next year please contact us here.
We also continued to develop our free family events programme with 69% of events being free of charge.
We ran 61 events in 20 venues including the new Sheffield Children’s Festival ‘Cube’.
‘The Cube’
This year we commissioned a purpose built, eye-catching, bright blue pop-up exhibition space that could be sited in the Winter Garden in Sheffield’s City Centre over the dates of the 2011 festival. It showed off and displayed the children’s artwork in a professional approach to thousands of people.
This is what you said about us this year:
“I loved the flycycle, it was mind blowing, it felt like you were actually flying - we got very high indeed. The magic man was fun and Designosaurs was mesmerising, I couldn’t stop watching my dinosaur on the screen - everyone should have a go!”
- 8 year old boy“My class loved the experience and have gone home and told their parents all about it” - Teacher
“Everyone was so friendly and made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I cannot believe it was all free too!” - Parent

Although we try our best to make the festival as good as it can be we appreciate there might be things you think we could do better. We welcome feedback good and bad so if you have any suggestions please get in touch with us here.
